Glaucoma New Zealand
We help people with glaucoma get access to the information and support they need. Our national office provides professional education that empowers health professionals to accurately diagnose, treat, and manage glaucoma.
Our services include:
Enhancing public awareness about glaucoma
Early detection of glaucoma and its risk factors is critical to minimising the chance of vision loss and blindness. We initiate awareness programmes to get people monitoring and looking after their eyesight.
Supporting and informing people with glaucoma
Glaucoma NZ publishes free educational material and resources, holds patient symposium meetings across the country, and develops community support groups for those diagnosed with glaucoma.
Educating eye health workers to assure high quality services
Our Glaucoma Professional Education Programme, as well as other professional educational services such as our GP Arena, promote high quality eye care services across the public and private sectors.
Support & fund glaucoma research
Research is the key to providing the best care for glaucoma patients and to finding improved treatments or a cure. We support some of the best research in the country into glaucoma & eye health.
Who are we?
We’re a membership charity and are passionate about providing sight saving education, support and advocacy to people with glaucoma and their families. We provide support services to help people at all stages of their glaucoma journey, but we’re also here for the professionals too – providing support and resources and helping them keep in touch with what matters most to people with glaucoma.
Join the community“Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness in New Zealand, and about 50% of people with glaucoma don’t realise they have it.”
