The Gordon Sanderson Scholarship.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to an optometry or medical student for research or education in the area of glaucoma.
The scholarship was established in memory of Associate Professor Gordon Sanderson, a founding trustee of Glaucoma New Zealand (GNZ) and passionate eye health educator in both New Zealand and Australia.
Who should apply:
Eligible recipients will be students/trainees enrolled in one of the following institutions: the University of Otago, University of Auckland or the University of Sydney.
Purpose of the scholarship:
The funds can be used for glaucoma research or teaching activities (related to glaucoma) that is supervised in any of these institutions. Funds can be used for stipends or consumables. (Applications to attend conferences is not funded. Computers will not be funded).
Amount:
$6,000-10,000 is available depending on the length of the project. Generally, summer studentships attract a tax-free stipend of $6,000 dollars for a ten week research internship.
Deadline:
Please submit applications by August 15, 2022. Funds will be available from November 2022 and must be spent within one year of initiating the project.

Please include:
Your CV and a 2-page maximum description of your proposed project with a supporting letter from your supervisor. Include budget details. If you do not have a specific project you are still able to apply. If successful you will be involved in a project through Glaucoma NZ.
Report:
The successful applicant will be asked to produce a 500-1000 word report and be asked to present at the annual GNZ Glaucoma Symposium the following year if possible.
