Celebrating your support through Round the Bays
Thank you to everyone who participated in Round the Bays Christchurch and Auckland in support of Glaucoma NZ.
Together, you have helped raise $5,000 (and counting!) for Glaucoma NZ. That support raises awareness of glaucoma. It also helps us provide information, education, and support for those affected by glaucoma across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Among those leading the way was Miles, our top fundraiser, who raised more than $1,000. Many of you may recognise Miles from our November Eyelights magazine and the video where he shared his glaucoma journey.
In Christchurch, Vivien, who lives with glaucoma, was the top fundraiser, raising more than $500. Her support is a reminder of the commitment so many people affected by glaucoma show in helping others protect their sight.
Support came from right across our community. OPSM Optometrist Joon Lee travelled from Tauranga to take part. Auckland Eye and Eye Institute turned out strongly with their families to participate and raise valuable funds. The NZ Optometry Student Society also ran for glaucoma awareness and joined us to celebrate on the day. It was also great to have Steve from NZ Optics raising funds with his team and joining us at our tent.
A big thank you as well to Charlotte from Physio by Design, who looked after participants with massage support on the day, and to Rapid Relief Team NZ for helping keep everyone refreshed with water and jelly beans.
Our runners wore t-shirts with a simple message: “Glaucoma doesn’t stop us. It moves us.” That spirit was clear in every step taken, every dollar raised, and every conversation started.
It was especially meaningful that the final Round the Bays event in Auckland took place on the first day of World Glaucoma Week 2026.
A special thank you to 2026 fundraising partners:
- Auckland Eye
- Eye Institute
- Matthews Eyecare
